This study was undertaken to investigate the craniofacial and dental morphologic
characteristics of class fill malocclusion in the primary dentition and to determine the
incidence of various class¥² craniofacial skeletal profiles The materials use4 in this
study were cephalometric radiographs of 76 children in primary dentition with, class ¥²
malocclusion (male 18, female 18) and with normal occlusion (male 20, female 20). Each
cephalometric radiographs were traced and the angular and linear measurements were
made and analyzed. The following characteristics of the craniofacial and dental
morphology of class ¥² malocclusion in the primary dentition were observed.
1. The anteroposterior relationship of the jaws was disharmonized in class ¥²
malocclusion.
2. In males, the maxilla of class ¥² malocclusion tended to be less prognathic and in
females, the mandible of class ¥² malocclusion was more prognathic than that of normal
occlusion, respectively.
3. The mandibular plane of class ¥² malocclusion was more steeply inclined than that of
normal occlusion in males. .
4. The genial angle of class ¥² malocclusion was greater than that of normal occlusion
both in males and in females.
5. The face of class ¥² malocclusion was less convex than that of normal occlusion both
in males and in females.
6. The lower incisor of class ¥² malocclusion was inclined further lingually than that of
normal occlusion in females.
7. In males, the pattern in which maxilla was below the normal range of prognathism
while mandible was within the normal range of prognathism and the pattern in which
both maxilla and mandible were within the normal range of prognathism were most
common.
In females, the pattern in which maxilla was within the normal range of prognathism
while mandible was beyond the normal range of prognathism was most common.
